There are several digital video transmission systems in HD. Those of DJI, on the brand’s drones and the Digital FPV system for racers, are probably the most used. But competition is organized. Aomway had released a first version of its Nexus system, it was at the beginning of 2017. The solution was handicapped by high latency. Here is the Nexus V2, which promises a video link in 1920 x 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second with a bit rate of 20 Mbps, from a source in HDMI.
The continuation of Aomway’s promises is interesting: the Nexus V2 would provide a latency of 30 milliseconds and would have a range of 7 km. Characteristics which would, in theory, allow immersion flights. However, Aomway intended its system for aerial cameras. We can deduce that the latency is greater than 30 milliseconds, if only because the video source goes through HDMI. The device operates in the 5.8 GHz ranges, without further details on these ranges or on the power developed.
The Nexus V2 is compatible with the MavLink format, with the possibility of an OSD. It records videos on the transmitter and on the receiver, in H.264. The transmitter, to be placed on board the drone, measures 3.2 x 6.2 x 2.4 cm and weighs 60 grams. It is to be supplied with 2S to 6S. The ground receiver measures 9.3 x 5.8 x 1.7 cm and weighs 108 grams excluding antennas. And it works as announced by the technical sheet? Difficult to say without having tested it … The Nexus V2, in transmitter and receiver pack, will be offered at $399.99 at Banggood Store.
