SJCAM SJ8 Plus WiFi Action Camera

SJCAM SJ8 Plus uses the 12 MP Sony IMX117 also known from SJ7 Star, Firefly 8S or GoPro Hero4. SJCAM SJ8 Plus uses a different brand, the Novatek 96683, that enables EIS in 4K resolution. And that’s the difference compared to SJ7 Star which uses the Ambarella A12 (but as mentioned the same sensor).

Now let’s take a look at the features for SJCAM action cameras:

• 4K 60fps – SJCAM’s new top model will feature this setting to be on level playing field with
• YI 4K+ and GoPro Hero6. (SJ8 Pro only)
• EIS 4K 30fps – Image Stabilization is available in the highest resolution, similar to YI 4K+ and Hero6 (SJ8 Pro & SJ8 Plus)
• USB-C – all SJ8 series cameras feature USB-C for faster data transfer and hopefully mic-in option.

What’s unclear so far:

The following features were mentioned at a very early stage, not sure if they still be implemented.

• Voice Control – pretty convenient for selfies, is implemented with YI 4K / YI 4K+ and GoPro Hero5 / Hero6
• GPS recording – I really like to record GPS data, to display speed and roadmap within the recordings. It was mentioned that SJCAM SJ8 will need an external device for recording
• GPS data, whereas GoPro has GPS built in.
• Live Streaming – Similar to YI 4K you can live stream directly from the camera to Facebook, might come to SJCAM SJ8.
