Today we’re going to review Anet ET4X. This 3D printer has been developed by the company Anet, and is presented as an update of the successful Anet ET4 Pro model. We say this because, despite the fact that we have included a number of new features that we will talk about later, this device is practically identical to its predecessor.
This 3D printer measures 440 x 380 x 480 millimetres and weighs 7.2 kilograms. It is not exactly a small machine, nor does it stand out for its lightness. However, it is still a home model, which can be placed easily. If we compare it with other DIY printers, we can see that it is a little bigger in size, but we reiterate that it is not at all unreasonable. All these devices are quite comfortable, they are designed for that, because, if they were a hindrance, they would not be sold.
The structure is made of aluminium parts with a simple assembly. The colours are metallic black and blue, which makes it quite a nice printer. It is not a decorative piece, although it is not an object that should be covered. In addition, it has an aluminium and tempered glass bed that is also quite eye-catching. It looks like in other printers, this is an aspect that is not well cared for in the design.
Finally, we must talk about the 2.8-inch LCD touch screen. It is worthwhile that they have chosen to include this technology, but they certainly fall short. It’s a very small screen and the tracking that can be done through it is minimal. Seeing something within such a few inches, taking into account the readings that must be made on them, becomes very complicated.
The print volume handled by the Anet ET4X is 220 x 220 x 250, a good size for a printer of this kind. With a speed that is also within the norm, in this case up to 150 millimeters per second, although it is recommended that it be used between 30 and 60 mm/s. It is quite quiet, which is great news.
The diameter of the nozzle is 0.4 mm, which does not surprise us because it is also the standard within the market. It prints with an accuracy of approximately 0.1 mm and the materials it uses are PLA, ABS, IPS and even wood. A wide range of printing options, although it is recommended to use PLA, as it is the one that gives best results in all brands and is easy to find. The temperatures it handles are a maximum of 250ºC in the extruder, and 100ºC in the printing bed. It is recommended to work with a room temperature between 10 and 40ºC, with a humidity that does not exceed 80%.
The printing software are Cure, Repeat and Simplify 3D, all are closed systems and that is not a plus. The operating systems are Windows and MAC; Apple compatibility is key, as not all printers have this feature. The control languages are English and Chinese, so for those who do not have language control it can get a bit complicated.
The input data format is STL, OBJ and JPG, while the output format is Gcode. More formats would not be bad, but these are enough to not have many complications when preparing and running the prints. Once the printing has started, there is no need to worry about power cuts. It has a pretty good security system that allows you to recover the task without problems.
Finally, there is the issue of connectivity. There’s not much to say either, though, because it simply uses a USB connector. No sign of wireless connections, although it’s rare to find a familiar 3D printer with WiFi or Bluetooth.
This is the biggest problem with the Anet ET4X, which has no new weight. All the good things about it, they already had it in previous models of the brand. You have to be aware that this printer acts more as an upgrade, than as a new release. This fact is key when making a review, because, in our opinion, when it comes to new models, we must bring a visible improvement.
It is true that all the features we have been mentioning are quite acceptable. However, it is a carbon copy of its predecessor, the Anet ET4. Considering that this printer is one of the most competent on the market, this is no insult. Added features such as automatic levelling, good compatibility and great design are features that have made Anet a great choice. However, we would have liked this new model to provide an extra that would make your purchase more profitable.
