Of course, you can also start small and possibly enlarge later. The Easythreed X1 Mini is probably one of the smallest 3D printers currently available. With a width and depth of just 210mm x 205mm, it is as large as the printing area of many other 3D printers. The small device with the 100x100x100m large printing area is available on Banggood.com.
An improved Easythreed X2 Mini 3D printer is now also available. Basically, it does nothing else, but now has a small display and a rotary knob on the control unit. A fan for cooling the running print was also installed (I complained about this in the test of the X1 that this fan was missing), and the small mini printer is now also able to communicate via WLAN. Otherwise, nothing has changed in the optics or other components, but the price has increased somewhat due to the new components.
The Easythreed X2 Mini comes in a striking orange color (optionally also available in other colors, depending on the dealer). The dimensions of the printer are smaller (100 x 100 x 100mm WxDxH) than conventional printing areas of the usual 3D printer. However, if you want to start small and inexpensive, you will certainly be pleased with an interesting entry price. The usable printing area is only 100x100x100 mm, but should still be interesting for smaller 3D models. The print speed is probably 10-40 mm/s which is not necessarily fast but should ensure good results. The print height / layer height is between selectable 0.05mm and 0.4mm. The pressure nozzle measures the usual 0.4mm and the filament used also corresponds to the usual 1.75mm. However, only PLA can be used.
The set-up should be done with just one hand. I’m actually very excited. There is also no hotbed. Accordingly, the print surface is apparently not heated. To do this, it is magnetic and therefore easy to remove from the printer. The printhead can reach temperatures of up to 230 ° C. The file formats that can be used are also the usual suspects with STL and OBJ or as a finished GCODE file. Interestingly, proprietary software is used. You can still use Cura or Simplify3d if desired.
The printing process should be carried out with a single keystroke. You probably don’t have much more options without a display anyway. The files for printing are also fed into the printer as usual using a micro SD card. Probably you have to process file by file here individually, because without a display you certainly cannot choose what you want to print from the micro SD card. The consumption in operation is 30 watts. Not much can be said about the volume or the operating noise at the moment. The manufacturer only gives the note: “small, light and quiet printing”.
