In China, wearable manufacturer Huami has introduced a new Smartwatch, the Huami Amazfit Pop, which will be launched during Singles Day on November 11. The pre-sale in China starts already on October 21! However, this is probably simply the Chinese version of the Amazfit Bip U, which was recently launched in India. What is new is the fact that the Amazfit Pop is also equipped with NFC, but this will probably only be relevant for China. In a possible Global version this feature would probably not be available. We will keep you informed and update the article as soon as Amazfit Pop is released globally.
Following the Huami Amazfit Neo, wearable manufacturer Amazfit is releasing another inexpensive Smartwatch and is expanding its popular Bip range. Judging by the first pictures, the Huami Amazfit Pop could almost be called Amazfit GTS Lite. In India it will be launched under the name Amazfit Bip U and in China it is scheduled for release on November 11.
The Huami Amazfit Pop and Amazfit Bip U are almost identical Smartwatches. The Amazfit Bip U is for the Indian market, the Amazfit Pop for the Chinese market. They apparently only differ in language and in terms of NFC, which is probably integrated in the Chinese version and not in the Bip U for India. In this article we will concentrate on the Amazfit Pop, since the Chinese version will probably be used as a template for a possible global version.
The Amazfit Pop joins the Bip and GTS family due to its square design. The Amazfit Pop has a slightly more modern design than the Bip, the watch case is more rounded at all four corners and the edge of the screen is probably also somewhat thinner. At least the manufacturer has enlarged the display from 1.28″ to 1.43 inches. This is a TFT LC display with a resolution of 320 x 302 pixels, which is also significantly higher than its predecessor.
The watch consists of a polycarbonate, i.e. plastic housing. In view of the price segment this processing is also justifiable and was also no problem for the Bip models. The watch comes in three colors: black, green and pink, with the green Colorway being new to Amazfit. Thanks to a total weight of 31 g, the Amazfit Pop is once again a flyweight and also protected against water penetration in accordance with ATM 5 classification. This means that showering and swimming with the watch is also possible.
Amazfit Pop can be seen as part of the Bip series, and in India it is a part of it. A reworked design of the Amazfit Bip series was overdue, the slimmer screen edges are the Amazfit Pop or Amazfit Bip U. Even with the resolution you move towards an Amazfit GTS, which is why the name “Amazfit GTS Lite” would have been appropriate. On the other hand, the GTS watch now also resembles the GTS in terms of battery life, the killer feature of all previous models. I still remember that I sometimes reached one month battery life with my first Bip. Would you accept the worse battery life for a better display?
The Amazfit Pop is scheduled for release in China on November 11 and can be introduced in China starting October 21. Experience has shown that it does not take that long for a possible Global version to appear. However, there is no information available yet on the price. We will keep you informed and update the article accordingly.
