Xiaomi JIMMY JV85 Pro Cordless Handheld Flexible Vacuum Cleaner

In Xiaomi’s ecosystem there are several household brands, one of the most famous and innovative is probably Jimmy. Jimmy pays special attention to cordless vacuum cleaners, most of which convinced us in the tests. The predecessors JV63 and JV65 already had a very high suction power, but are tame lambs against the new Jimmy JV85 Pro. The manufacturer remains true to its credo: a lot of power and innovation for little money.

Due to the additional content, it is easy to imagine how things are going at the Xiaomi subsidiaries: A messenger collects a variety of essays from a factory and delivers them to Dreame, Roidmi, Jimmy, Shunzao and others. They then give the attachments, rollers and charging cables their individual color, pack the new vacuum cleaner and send the package. The additional contents of the package to the vacuum cleaner also look like this at Dyson. What I want to say with this: Don’t buy a battery-operated vacuum cleaner because of the attachments or other supplements, they are almost identical everywhere.

Whenever you think that nothing could surprise you after dozens of tested models, this is what happens: The plastic tube with metal elements is flexible, so with a little practice you can get under furniture better. Without bending down, of course. Jim, why don’t you demonstrate this for us?

Jimmy has generally advertised the pleasant handling of this vacuum cleaner, because the handle design is particularly ergonomic and adapted to the average user. In fact, I didn’t see it that way at first glance because the controls for changing the suction level and switching on the vacuum are located above the handle. But Jimmy thought about it: the JV85 has the 0.6 l dust chamber on the side.

Due to the constellation of the buttons, the Jimmy JV85 Pro lacks a trigger; one starts and stops the suction process by means of the power button on the upper side. By pressing it, the suction process is then active until one presses the button again or the battery power decreases.

The workmanship is typical Jimmy: Good, but not very good. One step below Dreame and Roidmi. The design is cool and unusual, but the colouring is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea. Rarely has the design of a cordless vacuum cleaner brought so much new, quite refreshing. But that’s not all, there’s a display on top of it.

Exciting up to here, one has to be allowed to say. And what else can the Jimmy JV85 Pro do? Well, like most flagship vacuum cleaners today, the Jimmy JV85 has an LED display. This has been placed in front of the controls and should provide its owner with information about the vacuum cleaner.

Hmm, that’s it? Well, the most important information is included: The battery status, fortunately given as a percentage. So you can better estimate when the 2500 mAh battery has to be put back on the wall mount. According to the manufacturer, this is the case on the lowest suction stage after 70 minutes, which is a slightly above average value. Or to say it differently: For flats up to 120 m² the battery capacity is sufficient, if one does not vary too much with the suction stage in between.

Readable error messages would have been nice, but even so the display is quite useful. The question is always whether a vacuum cleaner without display wouldn’t be cheaper. Well, the trend is currently unstoppable. So it is with Jimmy, too.

The strongest battery vacuum cleaner brands in China can all be traced back to one company: Xiaomi. Whether Dreame, Roborock, Roidmi, Mijia, Shunzao or Jimmy here: the tech giant Xiaomi has his fingers in the pie with all the strong brands and manufacturers. The result is a powerful cordless vacuum cleaner for a comparatively smaller wallet. At least in comparison to established manufacturers in this country.

This is exactly where the Jimmy JV85 Pro comes in: High suction power, good handling (not necessarily as a hand-held vacuum cleaner) and replaceable battery are only a few positive keywords. The display is nice to have and Jimmy was simply a bit sleepy in the way he charged the battery. The volume isn’t optimal either, so you should have filtered better.

But otherwise? If the negative points mentioned don’t bother you, you get everything you expect from a vacuum cleaner for your money. Maybe it’s just because I’m a bit too happy about it as a tester, but this bendable suction tube is really a fun feature.
