Segway prepares Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30 e-scooter for the long commute

Only recently it became known that TÜV Rheinland has tested two scooters from the Chinese manufacturer Segway-Ninebot. So will approved Ninebot models soon be available on the market? At least that’s what it looks like.

There was speculation in advance, now it’s official. Segway-Ninebot will launch a version of the Ninebot MAX that meets the requirements of the new Small Electric Vehicle Directive that came into force in June. This scooter will be called the Ninebot MAX G30D.

The company itself writes about the features of the new models:

• The battery capacity should be 551 Wh and enable a maximum range of 65 kilometres – a more than good value, which is higher than almost all previous models.
• The maximum speed will be 20 km/h – as provided for in the regulation. With its 350 W output, the scooter is expected to overcome gradients of up to 20°.
• The tyre size is a pleasant 10 inches. This makes it safer to drive than models with smaller 8.5 inch tyres.
• The final price should amount to $850, in the advance sale it will be to be had for $650.

Before the announcement, TÜV Rheinland had put two of the manufacturer’s scooters to the test. As the company itself announced on its blog, two e-scooter models have been “certified as complying with the new regulation for very small electric vehicles”. Thus, they do not yet have the necessary general operating permit, but meet the requirements to obtain it. This is now the responsibility of the Federal Motor Transport Authority.

Type testing took place in China with the involvement of German experts. The Segway-Ninebot models are not the first to have undergone such a test; according to TÜV Rheinland, it has already certified the approval of four other models.

Segway-Ninebot is one of the leading manufacturers in the field of electric mobility. Everyone associates the name Segway with the first self-balancing vehicles that appeared a few years ago. At China-Gadgets we already tested the E-Scooter models Ninebot ES1 and ES2 in 2018, which met with very positive feedback from us and you, but are not yet registered in Germany under the new E-Scooter regulation. Again and again the brand is said to have a connection to Xiaomi, who are said to have been involved in the takeover of the American manufacturer Segway by the Chinese of Ninebot.

So far, the number of approved models is manageable. Some models can be pre-ordered in the large electronics stores MediaMarkt and Saturn, while models imported from China have not yet been approved. The cityscape in many large cities has so far been dominated by scooters of so-called sharing services.

The new models Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30 are scheduled to go on sale in September 2019 and can then be officially purchased and approved. Unfortunately, the company has not yet made any official statements about the price of the new models. However, the company will also be at IFA 2019 in Berlin in September, and there will probably be more details on the new scooters.
