UMIDIGI A3X, a basic range Smartphone for less than 100 USD

“UMIDIGI A3X” and “UMIDIGI A3S” are Umidigi smartphones announced on November 23, 2019. The “UMIDIGI A Series” is an entry model for beginners that has realized a low price of $100.

The new UMIDIGI A3X has been presented for the basic range at a price not exceeding one hundred euros, something already attractive in itself. Best of all, its specifications are often surprising for the price. To put UMIDIGI in context, we know that the brand does not compete with major Chinese manufacturers (Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo). But among small companies (Ulefone, Blackview, Oukitel), UMIDIGI is perhaps the most successful. Some of its mobiles are the A3 Pro and the S3 Pro among many others. And among the endowments that their mid-range handle are the fingerprint sensor, quadruple camera, perforated screen and high performance batteries.

Now, let’s know the details of the new A3X of this emerging brand…

The screen is 5.7-inch IPS LCD type, with an HD + resolution of 1512 × 720 pixels. With this it achieves a pixel density of 294 PPI… almost 300 for a basic mobile is not bad at all. The mobile comes in 19:9 format, protected by 2.5D glass on both sides and a metal frame on the edges. As we can see, the device is made of quality materials (glass and metal frame). There is also a wide notch on the screen, something different from the small notch in water drop that we are already used to seeing. The terminal is only 8.7 mm thick and comes in grey and gold.

The MediaTek Helio A22 chipset, a 2.0GHz quad-core that gets about 61000 points in AnTuTu, is the engine of this device that also opts for a RAM of 3GB and a ROM of 16GB. This is a thorny aspect, given the modest size of the native storage. But the dedicated microSD slot can expand this memory up to 128GB. And as a positive counterpart, the operating system is none other than Android 10 in its standard version.

As for the battery, it has a comfortable capacity of 3,300 mAh with a normal load of 5W (5V/1A).

In photography, a dual main camera is integrated with 16MP + 5MP sensors, f2.0 apertures, 6P lenses, portrait mode, dual LED flash and 1080p video recording. Meanwhile, the front camera has 13MP, f2.2 lens aperture and functions like beauty mode by AI.

The data transmission is in Dual 4G LTE. There are Bluetooth 5.0, wifi 802.11 n, Wifi Direct and wifi display. There is GPS, AGPS and GLONASS navigation. The slot is triple (Dual SIM + MicroSD), with 4G function in both SIM. The port is the traditional microUSB 2.0 and we also have the 3.5 mm connector. The fingerprint sensor is on the back and there is also facial unlocking. Additional sensors include proximity, light, accelerometer, gyroscope and compass.

The new UMIDIGI A3X is a basic range mobile with good equipment. The darkest aspect is the storage of only 16 GB (on the eve of 2020), but the rest offers us many attractive elements. In design the glass on both sides in a great plus… And we do not rule out a later version with 32 GB of ROM.
