Wanbo S5 HD DLP 200 ANSI Lumens Ultra-thin Portable Home Theater Projector

Not so long ago, an interesting home projector Wanbo S5, from the Wanbo company, appeared on sale. The main difference from similar models is the presence of built-in acoustics from harman / kardon, so that the projector does not sound “like a bucket”. Two 45mm speakers are installed at the front and two sub-woofers at the bottom of the projector that produce a decent sound and do not rattle the maximum volume.

This projector uses DLP technology, the advantage of which is lower heat dissipation and longer life. After all, the image is formed in it by micro mirrors, which have a size of only a few microns and three matrices of different colors: blue, red and green, through which simultaneously passes light on the prism system. If you use a conventional projector, then in a year you will most likely change this lamp twice, and they are not quite cheap. You can use this projector for many years.

According to the manufacturer, the diagonal image can be set to a maximum of 300 inches, which is certainly a lot, for this model, the colors on such a large screen will be more pale. Wanbo S5 is able to give the maximum resolution of FullHD, 1920 x 1080 pixels, there is support for 3 d images. The luminous flux of the projector is 900 lumens, and the contrast is 1000: 1. In order to achieve an image of at least 109 inches, the projector should be hung from the screen at a distance of 3 meters, keep this in mind based on the size of the room.

If you want to get a high-quality image, then you need to buy the screen itself, where the projection will be displayed. Do not think that on any surface will be remarkably visible.

The projector has an operating system Android 5.1.1, which will allow you to download and install any applications for viewing video, including IP TV. The interface is simple and intuitive, everything is done conveniently. To connect to the network, you can use either the built-in Wifi module that works in two bands, 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz, or the Lan port. There are modules Bluetooth 4.0, Airplay, DLNA, Miracast, through which you can play movies from the network or display an image from your laptop or phone to the projector without wires. Wanbo S5 can be used simply as a bluetooth speaker, output music from a smartphone or any other device.

To connect external drives, you can use the USB ports, which are 2, the first USB 2.0, the second 3.0. To connect third-party sources on the chassis, there are 2 HDMI inputs, one of them has an ARC modification, which allows one turn on the projector, turn on the source automatically, of course, provided the same HDMI / ARC port is present.

The device has an optical audio output for connecting external speakers. As I think everyone understands, the sound on the external device switches completely, in parallel with the built-in speakers will not work.

We ‘ll go through the hardware, it has a Mstar 6A928 Cortex – A 17 processor with a frequency of up to 1.75 Ghz, 3GB of RAM and 16 GB of constant memory, a graphic module of the Mali- 760 MP4.

This projector is positioned, for viewing with open curtains and under light, of course in practice it is not. The image immediately becomes dull and difficult to disassemble. This is a big minus of the LED projector, if you need a good brightness, you need to choose a tube with a good light flux, but as noted earlier, the lamps are not durable. At the same time if you look in complete darkness, then the image is bright, sometimes even too much.

Concerning the sound, I will say this: On the one hand, it’s convenient that the acoustics are on board, you do not need to add anything else, pull the wires, on the other hand, if you put it, for example, on the side of the couch or hang it, the sound will go with one hand, which will not allow you to fully immerse yourself in the film. If you plan to use it as a portable device, connect it in different rooms, for example, turn it on in the nursery and show the kids a cartoon on the big screen, then this projector will be useful for you. If you plan to use it as a replacement for a TV, then I’m afraid it will disappoint you because of the problems described above.
