Butter for the fish: The Xiaomi Mi TV 4A is probably the most special product we have ever had in the test laboratory. But a TV is actually something ordinary. So you pay around 350€ and then you get a TV that you can only use with additional equipment. On the other hand, a triple tuner for TV reception is almost standard on all televisions available in Germany; Xiaomi Mi TV simply doesn’t have one.
The unusable Smart TV system, which actually represents Xiaomi’s big plus in China, is simply a clear disadvantage for us! In terms of picture quality and workmanship, the Xiaomi TV is convincing, and not only in comparison with a 420€ Hisense TV. Just write us in the comment field if and why you would put a Xiaomi TV at home. Otherwise I can highly recommend the new and reliable ZUG dispatch method for large Gearbest devices.
The TV is in the living room and should impress guests, just like the car in the driveway. Unfortunately, this is a complete flop with the 43 inch Xiaomi Mi TV 4A! This one looks nice, but is much too small. The Bezelless madness is ubiquitous, and here the Xiaomi TV with 12mm edges can certainly score. With the feet mounted, the device weighs 8kg and is less suitable for one-handed transport.
The Mi TV 4A is otherwise 96.6cm long and 61cm high. The thickness starts at the upper edge with 10.5mm, then changes to 44mm and ends at 74mm – all in all inconspicuous default values. To place the TV safely, you should have a TV table at least 23cm wide. The feet are made of plastic and are fastened to the underside with 2 screws each.
Unfortunately, the power cable is integrated in the television, which is why you would have to use a Chinese adapter in the socket. For safety reasons, we recommend simply cutting off the cable at the end to the China plug and replacing it with a standard plug (like this one) for Germany. If you want to pimp your TV with a stylish backlight, you can easily do this with the Xiaomi Light strip for 25€. Xiaomi-typical high-quality workmanship is also present in the affordable Mi TV 4A.
If you like to mount your TV on the wall, you can also do this with the China TV. When ordering a bracket, simply observe the VESA 400 x 200 standard, then nothing goes wrong during installation. The inputs have 2 x HDMI 1.0, 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x Ethernet, a composite video connector (yellow, red and white) and a DTMB connector (antenna connector not usable in Germany). As a special feature there is an S/Pdif output for audio signals.
Clear and undistorted sound is provided by 2 x 6Watt speakers (stereo sound). Although it doesn’t sound very loud, the quality is on a high level. The 43 inch display panel is a classic LED panel. There’s nothing to be afraid of with the MiTV 4A, because the display is evenly illuminated. At the same time, excellent black levels are achieved that can easily compete with a Sony BRAVIA KDL-50W805 and destroy the Hisense H43MEC3050. Hisense is known for aggressive marketing and was ubiquitous at the last World Cup.
The size at which a corresponding resolution makes sense for a television set should be worth discussing: The Xiaomi Mi TV4A resolves with almost ridiculous 1920 x 1080 pixels. That is in the conclusion 51 pixels per inch and with each Smartphone I would end the test at this point with the result “electronic waste”. But you don’t stare at the display at a distance of only 20cm.
Our 43-inch comparison device, on the other hand, brings it up to 102 pixels per inch. In theory, this is a huge difference that has little practical significance. Initially, even in the online streaming offer, such as Netflix, 4K content is only available to a very limited extent. The practical benefits are therefore questionable at first. With my seat distance of 3m I can’t notice any difference in sharpness.
The WOW effect is completely absent, but this may look completely different with sizes of 55 or 65 inches. What becomes clear even at a distance of 3m is the clear colour reproduction and contrast of the Xiaomi TV 4A. Also the settings do not save the catastrophic representation of the Hisense television. Here Xiaomi keeps up with the Sony TV without any problems. The Xiaomi Mi TV 4A is the perfect choice for those looking for a well-matched, bright and sufficiently sharp reproduction device for little money.
